Meet Andre De Beer, a celebrated artist whose creative journey has spanned a multitude of mediums and artistic endeavors. From his early academic pursuits to his extensive contributions to art education and his remarkable body of work, Andre has left an indelible mark on the South African art scene.

Andre's artistic odyssey began at Helpmekaar High School in Johannesburg, where he laid the foundation for his artistic aspirations. With a thirst for knowledge and a passion for visual arts, he embarked on a transformative academic journey. Andre attained a BA degree at the esteemed University of Pretoria, followed by a master's degree in Visual/Fine Arts. He further honed his skills by obtaining a Transvaal Higher Teachers Diploma with full colors from Pretoria Teachers College and a BA degree in Sculpture Art from Unisa.

After a brief period as a school teacher, Andre's expertise and artistic prowess were recognized, leading to his appointment as an Art Lecturer. It was in this role that he made significant contributions to the field of art education, leaving an indelible mark on administrative and organizational levels. He served as a valued member of various provincial and national committees responsible for coordinating the art syllabus of schools and tertiary institutes. Additionally, Andre held influential positions, including chairing exhibition committees for the Transvaal Educational Department and serving as a member of the curatoriam of Pretoria's Art Museum. For several years, he also assumed the role of chairman of the National Art Association of South Africa, showcasing his commitment to advancing the artistic landscape.

In 1976, Andre's dedication to his craft earned him a prestigious bursary to conduct research on the implementation of television as an educational medium for art. His inquisitive nature led him to visit nine overseas countries, absorbing inspiration and insights that would inform his future artistic endeavors.

Throughout his illustrious career, Andre has showcased his remarkable talent through numerous one-man exhibitions held in major cities across South Africa. His work has been sought after and recognized on both national and international platforms. Andre's artistic range knows no bounds, encompassing portrait studies, figure compositions, landscapes, still life, street studies, sketch work utilizing various graphic media, and even political caricatures.
