The family embarked on a series of moves, first to Standerton in 1980 and later settling in Heidelberg, where Maria completed her matriculation in 1990.

In pursuit of self-discovery, Maria's path led her to the SA Army Women's College, where she spent a transformative year. However, her thirst for knowledge led her to explore various fields of study. In 1992, she made the decision to embark on a new journey, leaving her studies behind to embrace a career in marketing. With unwavering determination, Maria honed her skills and climbed the professional ladder, ultimately assuming the role of marketing manager at TCD Trading in Pretoria.

In 1995, Maria's life took a significant turn as she married Francois Oosthuizen. Together, they embarked on an adventure, moving to England for nearly two years. The experiences gained during this time abroad enriched their lives and broadened their perspectives. With their hearts anchored in South Africa, Maria and Francois eventually returned to the vibrant city of Cape Town, where they lovingly raised three beautiful children.
